How many more lives must be lost due to negligence and complacency?
In a heartbreaking incident five children, aged between six and ten, died on Sunday after consuming snacks bought from a local spaza shop.
Gauteng police have opened five inquest dockets following the deaths of the children and investigations are still underway, with police trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said, “The police have opened an inquest docket after five kids aged between six and nine were declared dead at the local clinics on 6 October 2024. The circumstances that led to the deaths are unknown at this stage pending police investigations.”
Condolences have been pouring in from different community support groups.

Why aren’t our inspectors doing their jobs? Why aren’t they regularly checking on these spazas in our communities? How many more lives must be lost due to negligence and complacency?
